Places With a Past
“PLACES WITH A PAST” CELEBRATES ITS 24th YEAR
Twenty-four years ago, the Las Vegas Citizens’ Committee for Historic
Preservation organized its “First Public Historic House Tour”. Six venues were on the
tour, including the Vicente Silva House on Moreno, the Benigno Romero House on Hot
Springs and the J. E. Hurley House on Sixth Street. As stated in the 1990 brochure—
The story of early Las Vegas is told not only in architectural styling and
details, but also in the locations of these houses, their date of construction
and in the stories of the people who built them.
This year LVCCHP is proud to continue this tradition and invites everyone to
visit a few of the over 900 historic homes and buildings in our unique town. Now called
“Places With a Past” residents and visitors can tour homes on both sides of the river.
Docents will be at all locations as guides and will talk about the unique features of each.
So plan to explore historic Las Vegas at your own pace. The tour takes place on
Saturday, August 3, 2013, from 10am to 4pm. Tickets are $20 each and can be
purchased at LVCCHP, 116 Bridge Street; they are available ahead of time or on the day
the event. For further information please call Jeannie McKinley at 505-425-8803.
